The city of Suzhou lies in Jiangsu province and is called the Venice of the East due to its many canals. Ten million inhabitants live on around 8500 square kilometers. The metropolis of Shanghai with its international airports is about an hour from Suzhou.
Variosystems founded its fourth branch in China initially in Hangzhou in 2006. In 2013, the site was relocated to Suzhou. The production site measures 118,000 ft² and currently has around 300 employees. It would easily be possible to raise this to a total of 500 employees to increase production. China is the sales hub for the Chinese market and also supports the Swiss head office and the site in the USA in the manufacturing of mass series.
The Suzhou plant offers a range of manufacturing solutions. A machine fleet of five SMT lines and a total of four THT systems (one selective and three wave systems) are available for this. Electronic circuit boards and components are produced on site. So-called “secondary operations” are also offered, such as the mechatronic manufacturing e.g. of ignition coils for motors. With an additional vacuum sealing procedure, components such as coils are protected optimally against external influences. Further services include machine engineering and the coating of circuit boards. The main market for Variosystems China is traditional industry and the automotive sector for products such as sensors, drive controls, motor controls for windscreen wipers etc. The plant in Suzhou is IATF 16949 certified according to the international norms ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
The production site is ideally situated in a large hightech industrial park. All the service partners for the maintenance of machines and for remedying defects are therefore right nearby. International hightech enterprises such as Microsoft, Apple, Logitech or Robert Bosch also have plants in Suzhou, where Variosystems is among the top four organizations regarding work security and the environment, for which the company has received various awards. In terms of sustainability, Variosystems is regarded as a model enterprise in the region.
The site is the basis for the technical purchasing department of Variosystems in the Asian region. The volume production site is directed by a local management board with six executive members.
