Energy from Lake Constance: sustainable cooling at the Steinach site

At the Steinach site, Variosystems is taking a big step toward environmentally friendly energy by completely switching its cooling system. Instead of the old chillers, we now use the natural temperature of the nearby Lake Constance. Modern cold exchangers deliver the lake’s energy directly to our buildings.

Efficient, clean, future-ready

  • More power, less effort: The new systems provide significantly higher cooling capacity – up to 240 kilowatts for the HASS chambers alone. This allows up to four chambers to operate simultaneously.
  • A natural energy source: The entire cooling supply now relies on the Lake’s Constant temperature – free of harmful substances and fossil fuels.
  • Holistic upgrade: From the test field and production areas to the new Box Build Assembly Competence Center, all facilities are now fully cooled by lake energy.

With this upgrade, the transformation of the Steinach site’s thermal energy supply is complete. In 2024, the heating system was already converted from a fossil-fuel hybrid to a climate-friendly water-to-water heat pump – also sourcing its energy directly from Lake Constance.
