Strategic investments expand Variosystemsâ Swiss manufacturing footprint
Investments across the entire value chain
A key focus of the current investment is the expansion of coating and specialized manufacturing capabilities at the Steinach site. To create the required production space, the Box Build Assembly Competence Center was modernized, relocated, and expanded in September 2025.
While circuit board assembly operations benefit from optimized workflows and increased capacity, the site reorganization also creates room for the expansion of conformal coating capabilities as well as additional specialized manufacturing and post-processing operations.
Key developments include:
- The establishment of a new silicone application room with an upstream decontamination area, designed to meet increasing requirements for cleanliness and reliability.
- The consolidation of all gluing processes within the newly established Gluing Competence Center, complemented by an automated dispensing and bonding system to improve efficiency and process consistency.
- The expansion of the coating area with a fully integrated coating line that standardizes coating processes and further enhances process reliability.
- The planned addition of a plasma surface activation system in 2027, improving surface preparation and supporting stronger adhesion as well as the long-term reliability of coating and bonding applications.

Further advancements already in progress
In the upcoming months, the further development of existing production areas will be consistently continued. Additional modernization initiatives, layout optimization measures, and further automation steps are planned for the THT production area.
The introduction of the plasma surface treatment system is scheduled for 2027. To further strengthen process quality assurance, the integration of an additional Coating Automatic Optical Inspection (CCI) system is also planned.
Together, these measures will create a highly automated, end-to-end manufacturing process capable of meeting the growing requirements of regulated end markets.
Leveraging expertise across European manufacturing sites
The ongoing development of the Swiss sites is part of Variosystems’ seamlessly integrated manufacturing network: Steinach and Mendrisio work closely with the German site in Geseke, combining expertise for highly regulated industries, sharing best practices, and complementing each other through specialized technological and manufacturing capabilities.
For customers, this collaborative approach provides additional flexibility and enables Variosystems to support safety-critical and mission-critical applications from industrialization through serial production within a coordinated European manufacturing network.
